should be a roaring lion...

...as i am angry with the external hard-drive! instead of a long winded story, the quick version is that although i am trying to back up my work, i seem to have lost some illustration work. i am worried now as to what i may have lost. it looks like it is all there but some bits that i needed to use this evening can not be found on my laptop or external hard-drive. poo. i had a plan of action for today but the 'lost' work had them brain cells crying. instead, to calm meself down, i played around with layers, colours and textures on potatochop. i like his pencil green mane. i am getting there with colour, just need to try bit harder with it but i don't like to force it.

looking their best...

...are a small group of new robotingtons. they are heading out at the end of this week to the Northern Quarter. they are taking part in the UK DIY Craft Mafias Exhibition at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre which is on from March 20th to May 2nd 2009. many things are happening in the office, am sewing away like a demon and creating new badges whilst also thinking what to do about the lions, ladybirds and squirrel. i went to play on the super photocopier last night while at the mister's work, with the lions that i drew which you can see in the previous post. i don't know what the plan for them is at the moment. i can feel them two brain cells working away at one but they have difficulty in communicating their bright sparkles with the mechanical pencil. i wish there was a map to help me find my story.

featured...

...within the Spring 09 issue of small magazine. i was unaware that one of my rainclouds was floating around on the web somewhere until a fellow mafia member let me know. He looks pretty swish in that picture and it certainly has made me more determined to succeed. please follow the link to see more. today is going to be a mega busy day in the work room. i have teeth and robots to sew. the robots are 70% made up, they just need their bodies stuffing and their heads attached. the badge packaging has been over thought but will be sorted hopefully by the end of play today.
twenty five...

...lion heads with new noses is what i drew this evening while listening to Sir David Attenborough talk about the life journey of salmon. i really wanted to draw the grizzly bears that were watching the salmon jump around. i may draw them tomorrow. in other drawing news, i keep drawing lions that stand on all four feet as opposed to walking round on two legs. they may have talkative faces but i am just trying out some new character developments. there is an idea about a lion and a squirrel that need to return a fish to the sea? i just need to make the leap into drawing a story out and i guess i need to realise that if it doesn't make sense it doesn't matter. i also screen-printed some baby teeth onto calico this evening so maybe the old sewing machine will be in use tomorrow.

playing...

...with my huge collection of felt-tips. in order to think about how best to tackle the on-going issue with colour, i decided to sort out my materials box last night and never realised that i had so many felt-tips. i drew a pattern of randomness while i tested all the felt-tip pens. i could have coloured forever and it did cheer me up as i am in a confused state of mind. i am no nearer to doing what i want to do and too many steps away from a better job.

drawing...

...here is what i have been up to for the last few weeks or so. i am and have been glued to my desk drawing letters, numbers and words onto brown craft paper. the mister took this photograph and i quite like the angle of it. its like extreme drawing. as you can see Denise and Lenny are keeping me company and providing me with plenty of support and chitter chatter. sometimes we sing songs together while we listen to the radio.

five feathers...

...to find this weekend while you are out walking. feathers are fabulous clues as they help us discover what is living or happening in the natural world. for example i often find goose feathers near the side of the canal. though tuffs of these feathers found on the floor, tell me that they have been fighting over a slice of bread. i drew these feathers from a wildlife magazine, i fancied a change from the lettering which i will be doing for the rest of today. i am really enjoying typography at the moment. nose wise, i am off to pick up a prescription today. thankfully it will get better over the next day or two as this medication works.

on the sketchbook pages...

...a snooker playing lion. i have been trying to draw snooker characters for a week or so now in my spare time. the better one which is a rabbit, will not scan in properly at all. stupid scanner. i am working on some hand drawn lettering at the moment whilst trying to work four days at the cafe and do all the other illustration-y stuff in between. going off topic now - as ever, i feel ill because of my stupid nose which hopefully will get sorted out soon. i am off to the hospital to see a surgeon at end of February so who knows what lions i may see at the hospital.
