in green corner...

...lives the big desk of drawing and then cacti. big clive is the one on my desk and a couple of others do have names. little baby simon is living in the kitchen for the moment. the tallest one on the window ledge is the original cacti. i have had him since 2001/2. he wouldn't and didn't grow for about four years and then suddenly sprung up! i am just in the process of a weekly office tidy up as many things migrate to the floor and other un-findable places. this desk is the one i draw, stitch and create at. outside the window is the canal full of geese, seagulls and the occasional moorhen.

the computer desk...

..of a ladysnail. thought i would share a photo of a corner of my office with you all to see where i work. the big desk of drawing is to the right of this photograph. i will post this corner up another day. yesterday i went to artlab, sorry Jennie, i forgot to let you know that i was going! it was so nice to be back in the print room. i got stuck in and have inked up two copper plates ready for scratching away a drawing. also attempted to finsih off an edition of a print. i have some super good news. to my relief and total surprise, i found my art lab coat. it was hibernating in a cardboard box. that crafty robber bird must have put it there as we have seen him lurking in the print room before now. i have photographic evidence of this.

here they are...

...giving you their best shining smile. trying to take a photo in the evening is very difficult as the lighting conditions are not the best. i do need to try use my camera on its manual mode rather than auto. i have been drawing again and have decided that the rabbit wearing the top hat is a snooker player while the surfing ladybird is a four times world surfing champion. i am embracing the sports via drawing as i have no energy to exercise myself. they still both need names. am struggling with some of my drawing but it is a challenge that is exciting. exciting is also artlab starting on Wednesday!

drink and draw...

...there is nowt better than a spot of drawing on a Saturday evening. Ali and i, spent about two to three hours drawing random suggestions on a piece of A4 and these two little squares are my favourite doodles from last night. the name of the game was to take it in turns to suggest something for us both to draw at the same time, be it an animal, object or scenario. at the end we then showed each other what we had created. i tried drawing and colouring in with my left hand but feel i need to get rid of the mechanical pencil as when mistakes happen, i all too quick with the eraser to rub them out. the ladybird surfing is a character i can see myself drawing again and again as well as the crooked magic rabbit. he once was a magician's assistant/prop but is now seeking his fame and fortune as a button dealer...i think i will have to think about what it is that he does. to see Ali's surfing ladybirds and crow please click here. i made the teeth badges this week but have yet to take a photo. all in good time.

observational...

...drawing of coffee and tea drinkers in Manchester. it is my first full proper day off work so i thought i would go out and about and see what lions i could spot. i havent been out drawing for about a month or so and need to get some new things going on in my imagination. i have some drawing work to do which i will be doing but first i have to try and make the teeth badges. little baby simon the cacti is ill and i fear for his health. he took a turn for the worst over Christmas and i hope a few hugs of warmth will make him better.

baked in a pie...

...these acorns have been zapped in the oven this very evening and are waiting for me to attach their brooch pins. these little guys didn't quite work out the way i planned last night. the colours came out too dark and they were also too small in size. i used the light box and computer this evening straight after work to make a second batch, bigger and better and full of green colour! so no teeth badges this evening but i am sure they will make an appearance as and when. i also got to play with a super photo-copier last night. wow it was good!

a little family...

...repetitive drawing is still one of the things i like doing the most. i like drawing a little gang of friends who are all the same though they may vary in size, colour and facial expression. it lets me get a feel for the character. i am just about to bake some badges at the moment. hence all the acorn drawing. next up are tooth badges! i am very excited about these ones and i cant believe i never thought to make them as badges until someone asked if i had any at the Christmas markets. i have been watching a lot of comedy/drama/crime programs of late. i think a bit of detective story telling may occur in my drawing now with the robber bird. i refuse to let that story go. thanks goes to Monk, Murder She Wrote and Jonathan Creek. This is all due to the Christmas telly i watched and am now watching.

zombie...

...robotingtons. this batch has been so difficult to make. i had a right struggle trying to source the correct fabric and once i did, the dark greys one which are not pictured caused me to swear that many times that i nearly ran out of swear words. i refused to give up on the light grey ones and they are ready and waiting for their heads and other bits to be attached. since my last post i have been drawing but i am just trying to fathom out some new print work as i have had my heart set on creating some new print work for a while but since the whole credit crunch and lack of a decent wage, i have been unable to attend artlab but i planning to return at the end of January when the group re-opens for action as i have been working in the cafe a lot over Christmas. it is about ten pm here in manchester and i must get an hours drawing in before bed.
